Aftercare Instructions

After getting a tattoo, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions to ensure the tattoo heals properly.

If second skin was used, keep it on for 3-7 days. The longer the better, but it will be fine if it comes off sooner. If you develop an allergic reaction to it such as a rash or hives, take it off immediately and wash/moisturize the area. If cling wrap was used instead, take it off when you get home.

Once the protective covering is removed, Keep the tattoo clean by gently washing it with ANTIBACTERIAL soap 2-3 times a day. After washing, apply a THIN layer of a

water-based non-scented colorless lotion. Brands like Lubriderm and Aveeno work well. You can also use petroleum jelly such as Aquaphor, but be very wary of over-moisturizing. Only apply a very thin layer because over-moisturizing can lead to infection as well as make the ink fall out/heal differently.

Do NOT soak the tattoo or put it in dirty water until it is fully healed. Usually this takes around 4 weeks. Keep it out of direct sunlight, and use sunscreen on it once fully healed. DO NOT scratch or pick at the tattoo!

Healing Process

The healing process for a tattoo can take up to several weeks. During this time, it is important to keep the tattoo clean and moisturized. Do not pick or scratch the tattoo, as this can cause scarring and ruin the artwork. If you experience any unusual pain, swelling or redness, please contact me and I will let you know if you need to see a doctor.

Color tattoos typically take longer to heal, so don't be alarmed if it takes longer than your blackwork tattoos.
